Frequently Asked Questions

What makes the Issels Medical Center different from other medical clinics that offer alternative/complementary treatment?

The Issels Medical Center treatment is unique because it is based on the comprehensive Issels concept with its extensive history in the treatment of cancer, chronic degenerative diseases and immune disorders. We integrate conventional and research-based, complementary therapies according to the individual patient’s particular needs. Specialized testing methods are used by our physicians with the aim to detect and eliminate causes that may contribute to the impairment of the body's regulatory repair and defense mechanisms and to optimize the treatment program.

DISCLAIMER: The extent of the response to treatment varies from patient to patient, even with similar diagnosis as the internal bodily environment is unique to each individual patient.

What are the qualifications of the Issels doctors?

The doctors of the Issels Medical Center have their specialty training and many years of experience in various fields of conventional and naturopathic medicine. They are a group of Naturopathic Medical Doctors (ND), Medical Doctors (MD), Chiropractors (DC), and Licensed Acupuncturists (L.Ac).

Naturopathic physicians have the 4-year graduate medical training and specialize in natural, non-toxic medicine to help the body heal. They complement allopathic, modern conventional medicine, which is crisis/symptom oriented, by boosting and restoring the body’s own disease fighting mechanisms using scientifically validated treatment modalities.

The Issels doctors cooperate with experts of all specialty medical fields to provide full spectrum health care. They are also prepared to work with the patient’s own health care provider.

Which diagnostics are used at the Issels Medical Center?

Diagnostic evaluation is a critical part of any patient's health care program. Extensive diagnostic procedures including standard as well as modern complementary diagnostic tools go beyond the primary diagnosis and establish the basis for the individualized treatment program.

At the Issels Medical Center we use all types of tests to ensure our patients’ safety and to monitor their treatment response. In addition to using conventional medical testing, we also employ the use of cutting-edge laboratory testing such as for heavy metal toxicity, detoxification capacity, and in-depth immune system analysis, to name a few.

We also use special evaluation tools such as electrodermal screening to obtain important information about a person's condition, including allergies, sensitivities, hidden toxicities, etc. that can help direct their treatment plans.

For cancer patients we also utilize proprietary techniques of a specialized laboratory for molecular detection of disseminated cancer cells and analysis of their chemo-sensitivity.

Depending on the individual patient’s condition we use additional diagnostic assessments which include, but are not limited to, the following:

What can I expect on my first visit?

We find it beneficial for patients to mail or fax their medical records prior to their initial visit. In doing so, the records can be reviewed by our physicians before the appointment so that they can be up-to-date about the present condition. During the first visit our physicians will conduct an in-depth interview, perform a detailed physical exam, and answer any questions the patient may have at that time.

Patients from out-of-state who cannot come for a first consultation, are invited to fax their medical records including the reports of the pathology, of the recent scans and blood examinations as well as the surgical summary to the fax number 805.962.2127. Our doctors will review the condition and inform the patient promptly whether he/she is eligible for our treatment.

How long will I stay for treatment?

Patients usually come for a 3- to 4-week intensive treatment that will be followed by the home care program of a duration that depends on the individual requirements. During the intensive treatment at the Issels Medical Center patients receive treatments in the form of intravenous infusions, intra-muscular or sub-cutaneous injections, oral supplementations, and organic fresh pressed juices and organic lunch. Colon hydrotherapy, massage, hyperthermia etc. follow after the infusion treatment, sometimes before and sometimes after lunch. The afternoons are usually free to enjoy the beautiful nature and the attractions of Santa Barbara or Phoenix.
